Advice on Broadband or Internet access. Who is the best provider for you?
We prefer the smaller providers as they consistently show that they provide a far better service for the same money. The large mass market companies such as BT, Tiscali, Orange and TalkTalk to name but a few have their support centres located abroad. The net affect is very long telephone queues, plus multiple phone calls may be needed to make one change to your connection. Performance is usually less of an issue than support as this tends to be reasonable from most ISPs – although in our experience there are some exceptions.
- Providers we recommend include:-
- Eclipse – based in Exeter and owned by Kingston on Hull Communications. They offer an excellent service. Particularly good value for people who only need occasional use of the Internet
- Fast – based in Hampshire have an excellent service and infrastructure for business and home users alike. They are the easiest company to talk to and their Broadband connections are extremely good
- Force 9 – have an excellent network and good support. Again they are very good for home or business
- Pipex – Their support is not as good as it used to be, but they do offer a very good deal for both Broadband and telephone calls – so they may be worth considering
- BT Business – but only for business use. They have support centres in the UK who are both competent and helpful. This service is expensive if you are a home user, but may be good value for business

Factors include your existing provider for telephone calls, the likely use of the Internet, how you want to use the Internet to name just a few.
